Using Visual Elements: Highcharts

The primary purpose for implementing Highcharts in EME 801: Energy Markets, Policy, and Regulation was to help students extract pertinent information presented in the oil production chart shown above. The interactive chart allows the user to use their mouse to hover over the chart to extract specific information about the oil output for each of the nine different OPEC countries.

Historically, students in Meteo 101: Understanding Weather Forecasting have a difficult time converting local time to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), an essential skill for forecasting the weather and passing the class. This is taught during the first week of class but is used, and assessed, throughout the semester. Failure of students to master the conversion leads to poor outcomes.
